Epler’s Greenwood Glen

The wooded area behind the church has been prepared for “Green” or “Natural” burials.

A “Green” or “Natural” burial is a way of caring for the dead with minimal environmental impact that aids in the conservation of natural resources, reduction of carbon emissions, protection of worker health, and the restoration and/or preservation of habitat. Green burial necessitates the use of non-toxic and biodegradable materials such as caskets, shrouds, and urns.

Traditional headstones are not allowed in this area. Instead, loved ones may be memorialized by using flat rocks, engraved with the person’s name and information.

A natural casket to be used is pictured above. The hand-drawn cart was designed and built by a member of the congregation.
